I swear I'm not making this up but, the other week,
I saw on a guitar newsgroup, a request for tab of Bo Diddley songs!
Is there a generation with bad hearing out there?
Ear Training I
Here's a primer in how to train your ears to hear
chord changes. Write out chord charts for these: (in this order)
Any Chuck Berry Chess recording - you'll learn the difference
between I, IV and V. If you can't do this, you probably won't
be able to go further.
Any Beatles CD - mostly diatonic with a few unexpected turns.
Burt Bacharach's greatest hits - Maj 7ths, b5's, plus a surprise
in every song.
Now you are ready for next weeks class - Steely Dan : )
Ear Training II
In the grand scheme of ones development, I don't see
that big a difference in learning Bo Diddley songs from tab and learning
ear training from software. Maybe you kids should just walk away
from the computer once in a while......
FREE LESSON!
Bo Diddley bought a nanny goat
(play open "E")
Chunk chunk-a chunk-a chunk
Ka-chunk chunk.
What is cool?
Young people are the target of enormous publicity
campaigns to recruit them into the pop culture as consumers. They
just eat up whatever is thrown at them by the mass media and accept
it as "cool".
Overheard on a bus
"Listen, you say that
is crap,
and I say that
is crap. Let's just agree to disagree,
because we can't BOTH be right."
And everyone within earshot thinks "Oh yes you can".
Jazz
You can play the same song over and over and never play it the
same way twice.
